Designer, photographer, and painter Pablo Mazza produces lo-fi digital art in an ongoing exploration and celebration of the digital medium. His background as a graphic designer in Buenos Aires seeps into the pixilated fluidity of his art, propping up his chaotic aesthetics through the seamless juxtaposition of pop culture references. Like Mazza’s own cosmopolitan life, his compositions reflect a globalized and evolving world, where iconic architecture becomes anthropomorphized alongside public figures, both of which are reduced to subjects for the artist to recreate.
Mazza’s glitch aesthetic enables a unique means of scene reduction. His subjects, through the distortions and colored filters, become unrecognizable, their celebrity curiously absent aside from brief references. "The use of color blocking provides a solid base for photo-collage, while the omnipresent sense of disintegration ultimately unites the multi-layered images in a solid, abstract block. Says the artist, “I don't like people to understand my work just as I do. They should dream it. The work should move, wake concerns, make people feel uncomfortable.”
